Uninstall Bitdefender Without Configuration Password: Step-by-Step Guide Using Safe Mode

Sometimes you need to uninstall Bitdefender but don’t have access to the configuration password. This can happen when the password was forgotten or the system was configured by someone else.

Here’s how to safely remove Bitdefender without the password using Safe Mode.

Step 1: Start Windows in Safe Mode

  1. Press Win + R to open the Run dialog
  2. Type msconfig and press Enter
  3. Go to the Boot tab
  4. Check Safe boot and select Minimal
  5. Click OK and restart your computer

Step 2: Edit the Windows Registry

Warning: Editing the registry can affect system stability if done incorrectly. Proceed with caution.

  1. Press Win + R to open the Run dialog
  2. Type regedit and press Enter
  3. Navigate to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Endpoint Security
  4. Find the values named Key and UninstallLink
  5. Delete the values of these entries (not the keys themselves)

Step 3: Restart and Uninstall

  1. Open msconfig again
  2. On the Boot tab, uncheck Safe boot
  3. Restart your computer normally
  4. Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features
  5. Uninstall Bitdefender – it should now proceed without asking for a password

Important Notes

  • This method works for Bitdefender Endpoint Security
  • Always create a registry backup before making changes
  • If you’re in a corporate environment, contact your IT administrator first
  • After uninstallation, ensure you have alternative antivirus protection

This approach is safe and effective when you legitimately need to remove Bitdefender from a system but don’t have access to the configuration password.
